Senior Cook

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission (LVRM) is a private, faith-based organization that serves our community by offering a safe place for men and women to break the cycle of homelessness and addiction. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is looking for a Senior Cook to join our Shelter team.

The LVRM operates a Kitchen/Dining Hall serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, 365 days a year, to clients in the Mission’s Drug and Alcohol addiction Recovery program and the Men’s and Women’s Overnight Shelter as well as a daily evening Community Meal. The Senior Cook reports directly to the Executive Chef and Sous Chef. A Senior Cook must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner with other facility staff members, residents, clients, volunteers and donors.

Responsibilities

  • Prep all products for all assigned meals ensuring you are following correct health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with daily menu planning as needed.
  • Ensure all products are stored and organized correctly on a consistent basis.
  • Ensure all donated products are noted on the eraser/whiteboard in the kitchen as well as stored correctly in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all weekly orders as well as the weekly pallets are sorted and stored correctly in a timely manner.
  • Lead all meal periods by serving on line throughout the assigned meal period.
  • Oversee the detailed cleaning of the kitchen and dining hall to include floors, dining hall, and kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is clean & operating correctly.
  • Supports and participates in the Work Therapy program; assists Program staff in creating a productive, therapeutic, educational and professional environment that enables clients to learn and/or develop job skills and appropriate workplace behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Have a current Southern Nevada Health District ‘Food Handler Safety Training’ Card (Health Card)
  • Good understanding of safe culinary practice.
  • Experience in Banquet, catering, commissary, or employee dining hall
  • Ability to work on their feet and standing for an (8) hour shift
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. as needed.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, offering a competitive benefit package and paid vacation.  Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
